Specific associations of the disease with other known disorders are not yet well determined.

For instance, sleep apnea syndrome has not found its connection with diabetes despite the fact that it is a strong risk for cardiovascular diseases like the latter. Thus, there is still a need for further study and documentation of diabetes and its relation to other complications.

Diabetic feet pain is a common, well-documented uncomfortable symptom of the feet as a result of diabetes. The impaired nerves hamper the circulation of the blood which can eventually result in amputations. Diabetics suffer from rigid joints and they are susceptible to bleeding because of the decreased ability of clotting in the blood. This is because the wound’s healing rate is slower than the normal one.

Such people can often wound their feet because of the decreased nerve function. They would normally feel numb and such a loss of sensation could conceal the serious need for antibiotics or ointments to deal with the wounds. With this, the feet might not be cured at all or at the worst point, as a last result, might be amputated to impede the spread of the infection throughout the other areas of the body.

Here are some suggestions on ways to monitor the condition of your feet if you are suffering from diabetes:

1. Take a thorough look at the feet condition always. Having to check the feet daily is a fine way for diabetics to ensure that they are not missing any cuts, blisters or bruises. Noticing the problems beforehand can stop further worsening of the situation.

2. Talk to your doctor about evident foot complications. Consulting the aid of a professional is the best way to identify the problem and they would normally provide diabetics medication. If damaged areas are not being taken care of, the problem may become more serious in the future.

3. Sport the correct footwear for diabetics. These are designed to suit and support body weight, thus minimizing the pressure the body is exerting on the feet. Medical professionals should be consulted on what footwear would serve best.

4. Clean and dry feet at all times. Washing and drying the feet is an effective way to avoid injuries that can lead to infections.

5. Coordinate with your doctors to know the diabetes treatment that is efficient for you. Conditions may vary from one patient to another, that’s why, it is a must to determine which is the correct treatment to be applied to you.

A quick and natural solution for the pain of diabetes is to make use of the energy therapy called EFT, which basically involves tapping on a certain number of the acupressure points of the body.

Neuropathy basically refers to nerve damage and this can come about either as a consequence of diabetes, which is what people most popularly associate it with, or indeed some other disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, HIV and Lyme disease.

The Little Known Condition That Afflicts 20 Million Americans

If you have never heard of neuropathy, that would not be at all unusual. But the fact is, it is all around you. According to the Neuropathy Association, about 20 million Americans suffer from peripheral neuropathy. Neuropathy may be the epidemic that nobody ever heard of.

Neuropathy means nerve damage. People with neuropathy suffer from a wide range of symptoms that are brought on when nerves in the body are damaged.

There are three main types of nerve in the body. Sensory nerves govern our senses (heat, cold, pressure, touch). Motor nerves regulate our muscles. Autonomic nerves control the internal organs. When any or all of these kinds of nerve suffer damage or destruction, neuropathic symptoms can occur.

Peripheral neuropathy is the medical term for neuropathy that causes symptoms on the body’s periphery, that is, the hands and feet. These symptoms can include sensations of numbness, tingling, cold, tingling, “pins and needles,” and different types of pains from sudden sharp jabs to dull aches.

Neuropathy is a progressive disorder, meaning that it tends to get worse over time. This is not to say that there are not many types of treatments for neuropathy–there are. In some cases, the neuropathy can be relieved; in other cases, the neuropathy can at best be managed.

About a third of the people who develop neuropathy have diabetes. Many diseases can cause neuropathy (including HIV/AIDs, tumors, some infections) and diabetes peripheral neuropathy heads the list. In fact, two-thirds of all neuropathy patients suffer nerve damage as the result of some other disease or condition.

An explanation of diabetic peripheral neuropathy

Another third of neuropathy patients have neuropathy for no known cause. This is called idiopathic neuropathy.

Neuropathy symptoms can be highly individual. The condition can start suddenly or begin gradually. Early symptoms can be tingling, cold, the feeling of wearing gloves or socks even when hands and feet are uncovered, and tingling, buzzing, “pins and needles” sensations. These sensations can come and go for no apparent reason. Painful symptoms can also occur, with “electric shock” type pain and sharp, shooting pains often reported.

Neuropathy can start in feet or hands or both. After a while, these feelings can spread and to the legs and arms.

Other symptoms can include a heaviness in the muscles and a loss of balance. Some people with neuropathy have trouble walking because they lose the awareness of where their feet are. It can be difficult for a person with neuropathy to grasp or grip items.

Neuropathy can also be a side effect of certain medications. About 4% of all neuropathy cases are called medication-induced neuropathy. When the medication is discontinued, many people will get relief from neuropathy. In fact, the neuropathy in some cases goes away permanently. Probably the most common category of medicine that can cause neuropathy are certain chemotherapy drugs.

If you have or think you might suffer from neuropathy, you should see your physician and discuss it. You may benefit from a referral to a neurologist. Neuropathy is a complex condition and while there is no cure, there may be things that can help slow its progression and relieve symptoms.

The nerves that come out from the spine and branch out to all parts of the body, but particularly to the extremities, like the hands and feet, are called peripheral nerves. Damage to these nerves can occur as a result of an unhealthy diet and trauma as well as the diseases listed above. A healthy diet and vitamin supplements can help treat nutritional neuropathy and can even go a long way, together with adequate exercise to eliminating diabetes which is one of the main causes of this painful damage to the nerves.

A situation that affects many Individuals of their daily lives is a illness called diabetes. Undoubtedly, most people know someone who is either a buddy or family member who battles this disease. Overlook about the most of the rumour that people who don’t know what they’re talking about tell us about the disease. Because of this, there are a few diabetes myths in circulation that should be set straight.

One of the first myths about this affliction that may be dispelled immediately is that this is not a critical disease. Sure, it is true that many Americans dwell with this illness on a regular basis, but this doesn’t imply that it is not a severe disease. Know-how has merely made this condition extra manageable than in the past. With the addition of insulin pumps to the equation, individuals simply don’t hear or see diabetics talking about their issues anymore.

One other frequent misconception about this disease is that if an individual is overweight or obese, they’ll develop kind {two} diabetes. Weight is just one consider growing this illness and can’t create a case on its own. The opposite components that should contribute to getting this affliction are household history, age and ethnicity all are deciding threat factors for creating this disease.

Eating too much sugar and sweets will even not trigger diabetes from implanting itself within the body. That is most likely the largest misconception concerning the illness itself. While some cases do exist where this performs a helping function within the improvement of diabetes, it is extra due to the fact that the opposite danger components are additionally present. Somebody who isn’t in danger could possibly eat sweats all day, on daily basis with out ever getting diabetes.

Finally, one of many last misconceptions about diabetes is the food selection for diabetics. There are foods that may help a diabetic however for essentially the most half, they should eat a healthy diet just like anybody else. Their our bodies want the identical vitamins, minerals, and fluids that everybody else does. Not consuming correctly and avoiding meals will likely be detrimental to a diabetic’s health rather than helpful.

Diabetes myths must be dispelled as soon as they arise because it’s unfair to treat a diabetic like they have a stigma around them. Typically, their everyday lives are the same as individuals with out the situation, aside from the truth that they have to take an insulin injection or some other remedy to regulate the disease.
Diabetes foot pain is known to be one of the more common of the uncomfortable symptoms that you can get with this condition and so I was interested to know how she was coping.

This resulted in quite an interesting conversation which she agreed to let me share with you here.

The conversation went as follows:

J: What is it like to experience pain in the feet as a result of having diabetes? What is it like at night

A: They feel very very hot at night but they are actually not hot. Physically they are very cold

The other thing is I can’t bear anything or anyone to touch them, even the bedclothes, anything really

J: Does it keep you awake at night?

A: Definitely, yes. there’s no relief. Its not very nice at all.

J: So what do you do to deal with it? How do you cope?

A: Maybe it is a case of making sure my feet stay in a certain position, not touching each other

J: If they touch each other when you are asleep do they wake you up?

A: Yes and then it is difficult to get back to sleep again. Even getting up and walking around doesn’t solve the problem. The funny thing is, I still have it during the day but it doesn’t seem so much of a problem.

J: Why do you think that is?

A: Mainly because my mind is on other things so I am distracted away from thinking about the pain. When you are in bed you are actually thinking about it because it is so obvious when nothing else is going on and all is quiet.

J: So your focus is on it at that time?

A: Yes. I am trying to go to sleep and this pain in my feet is stopping me.

J: Would it help to practice focusing on something else do you think, in these moments?

A: I guess it would, but how do you do that? Maybe it is not as easy as it sounds

J: Have you ever tried meditation?

A: I do meditation to go to sleep sometimes, but sometimes the frustration and pain takes over and so it is not easy.

J: What I have found is that when I have been in pain at night in the past, starting the meditation I feel the pain getting higher at first. Most people would at this point either start to resist it or give up. But what I found is that if I don’t resist it and I let go, by taking some deep breaths and allowing the pain to increase – funny idea I know – then after a short while the pain goes right down and either reaches a manageable level for sleep or often disappears altogether.

But it does go up at first. I reckon if you know this and are ready for it, this is actually quite a good pain relief method. But I don’t know how this might work for diabetes foot pain. Mine was more to do with post op pain and fibromyalgia.

It was as if the pain wanted to speak or be known and once I allowed it to have a voice there was no more need for it to be there. I believe that pain is a message from the body and it is up to us to listen to it, to be aware of what it might be about (more than just the physical symptoms)

A: I think stress has a lot to do with it as well because I do find that when I relax more the pain seems less

J: Does the doctor give you anything for it?

A: Yes I have Tegretol (carbamazepine) and take it twice a day, but its effectiveness doesn’t seem as great now, maybe because I have been taking it for too long

J: Have you tried EFT for the pain?

A: Actually not, because I didn’t know if it worked on that type of thing.

J: What type of thing have you used Eft for?

A: Headaches, very successful on lower back pain and restless leg syndrome

J: Am I right in saying that some of these are symptoms of diabetes?

A: Yes

J: So it might be worth a try on the foot pain?

A: Yes. I would be more inclined to do Eft than meditation because I’ve had better success in that department and it might even mean I could come off the pain medications.

J: Yeah I think different things suit different people but both of these methods are basically about deep relaxation at mind body levels and this in itself can bring about pain relief as the body’s immune system is nurtured as a result

One of the complications of diabetes which can be rather uncomfortable and even keep you awake at night is the diabetes pain in feet is experienced as a result of diabetic neuropathy or nerve pain. However there may be some things you can do to help manage or alleviate the discomfort and let things be a little more comfortable for yourself.

Learn to inspect your feet once or twice daily for any signs of injury or infection. The reason for this is that sometimes the feet can feel numb and so any knocks that the feet may take in your daily walkabouts may not be immediately noticed.

Good foot care is essential for anyone with this condition. It is advised for diabetics to wash their feet every day in warm water with mild soap, dry thoroughly, and moisturise the feet with an approved moisturiser, preferably with an antifungal ingredient in it.

Diabetes has many complications associated with it, the most common being diabetic peripheral neuropathy which is the main cause of diabetes foot pain. Over time, high blood sugars can harm nerves throughout the body, and this process most often starts in the feet.

Wounds which do not heal on a diabetic foot are considered to be very significant complications of diabetes. Although diabetes can harm the body in many ways, ulcers that do not heal on the feet and lower legs are very common outward symptoms of the disease. Also, the nerve damage in the feet and legs opens the potential for small wounds and lacerations to develop without there being any immediate awareness of it, at least initially.

To avoid foot problems which can result in losing a foot, leg, or toe follow these tips:

Daily foot inspection. Look for small cuts, blisters, swelling, or nail infections. Call your doctor if you notice anything.

Wash your feet in warm water. Keep your feet clean . Use only warm water.

Moisturise your feet – not between your toes. Moisturise daily to keep dry skin from cracking. But DON’T moisturize between the toes as it could cause a fungal infection.

Cut nails carefully. Cut them straight across and file the edges. Don’t cut nails too short, as this could lead to ingrown toe nails.

Avoid the wrong type of socks. Avoid tight elastic bands which could potentially reduce circulation. Don’t wear thick or bulky socks whichcan fit poorly and irritate the skin.

Never walk barefoot. Not even when you are at home! Always wear shoes or slippers.

Take care of your diabetes and help yourself to avoid any possible feet problems. Keep your blood sugar levels controlled. There are plenty of good diet suggestions on the internet these days to support you in your regular regime. Some even purport to be able to cure diabetes, so don’t let yourself think that once diagnosed you are doomed forever. There are treatments available that can help.

Everyone experiences stress every once in a while. It is basically unavoidable. Besides, if you see something stressful or you are in a stressful situation, you will definitely experience it. However, you have to keep it in mind that stress is not going to have any positive impact on your overall health condition. Living with diabetes is stressful enough. But, you need to remember that stress can also have its effects on the body, which can aggravate diabetes.

First of all, you need to understand what stress does to the body in order for you to fully understand why stress can have negative effects in people with diabetes.

Basically, stress is something your body feels when something happens that makes your body feel that it is under attack. The source of stress can be emotional or physical. It can be triggered by stressful events, such as marriage problems, or by someone striking you or hurting you.

When you are in a stressful situation, your body reacts and tends to gear up as if it is waiting to take action. This happens when he levels of many hormones found in your body increases. This response from the body is what many people know as the fight or flight response.

Stress can become a problem for people suffering from diabetes as stress triggers a body response that pumps sugar in to the blood. Therefore, stress increases blood sugar levels, which you don’t really need if you are a diabetic. You have to remember that being diabetic means that you don’t have the amount of insulin to use the extra sugar in your blood as energy.

In addition to that, people tend to overeat or drink alcoholic beverage when they feel stressed. This is also something that diabetics should avoid. Because it will play havoc in your blood sugar levels, you will be entering a very dangerous situation when you get stressed.

Since stress increases blood sugar level, it is not a good for the diabetics. It also encourages people to go on binge eating and drinking. This is why stress management is recommended for people suffering from diabetes.

To effectively manage stress, the best thing that you can do is to avoid stressful situations altogether. You will be able to prevent stress from affecting you and affecting your already serious condition by keeping your self off from the stressful situation.

If you think that your work hours are stressful, try to talk to your supervisor about it and get it changed. It is very important that they know about your condition in order for them to assign you to a more suitable work hours.

If you can, go to relaxation therapy. Here, you will be able to learn relaxation techniques that can be very beneficial for you. Exercise is also an excellent stress reliever. Go to the gym, walk, jog, or go cycling or swimming. You will not only help alleviate stress through exercise, but you will also be able to get your body to become healthier. Exercising has other benefits to diabetics too.

Always remember that stress will never go away. Time and time again, you will eventually feel it. The only way to solve this problem is by knowing how to manage stress. If you manage stress effectively, you can be sure that you will be able to manage diabetes.

When Type ii diabetes then becomes a part of your life, there are important changes that occur. One of the most common, not to mention severe, problems that occur is neuropathy. The nerves of the feet are at high risk of being affected by this condition of high blood sugar. Neuropathy occurs when blood vessels experience severe pressure, therefore cutting off the blood supply to longer limbs, like your legs and feet. It’s important that you check your legs and feet for any cuts, sores, infections, bumps and bruises. A mirror should be used to check any areas that are hard to see.

Type 2 Diabetes can cause many different types of foot problems. Fungal infection of the nails is apparent when the nails become discolored. They can appear to be a dark, yellowish-brown or dull. Sometimes the nails become very brittle and can crumble away from the nail bed. The conditions of your nails can be worsened by the moist, dark environment of shoes thus promoting further fungal growth. Blisters can result as a consequence of your shoes rubbing and irritating the same region of either foot. Blisters are much worse when you have diabetes. There is a likelihood that these can potentially become horrible sores if untreated by your physician. This is the reason it’s critical to examine your feet daily if possible.

Minor scrapes and cuts can occur from foot injuries or poor shoes. These minor injuries can become foot ulcers. Foot ulcers can be very susceptible to infection to those with Diabetes 2. Neuropathy can hinder your ability to feel any small injury on your foot. One may not be able to know there is a problem until it is too late. It’s best to check your feet regularly, and treat any cuts or scrapes on your feet immediately. Prevention is the key; by taking care of a problem like this before it gets worse is the best way to save your feet and health.

Other foot problems that can happen with Type 2 diabetes are calluses, corns, athlete’s foot and dry skin. Although the majority of these are common problems of the feet, when one has any form of Diabetes 2 easily makes any of the these conditions more severe e. Any foot problems need to be addressed right away. Treat cuts, sores and scrapes with medication or proper cleaning habits. Under no circumstance, let any possible tissue damage, no matter how small it may seem at first, allow to go on untreated by your healthcare provider. Untreated foot injuries raise the likelihood for serious infections. Occassionally infections can unfortunately become so extreme, consequently gangrene folloes and your feet can begin to rot. At this point, doctors are forced to begin removing rotted limbs with use of surgery. By properly looking after oneself, particularly when one has Diabetes 2, one can avoid any injury from getting this severe.

If there is one good piece of news in regard to learning about diabetes it is that Type 1 diabetes mellitus is a condition that does not affect too many people – at least not as many people as will be affected by Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Of course, this is small consolation because anyone can develop Type 1 diabetes mellitus, especially if they have not as yet entered their midlife period. The bad news is that now even youngsters aged below fourteen have started to develop Type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Is The Worst Form Of Diabetes

Diabetes is a serious condition and unfortunately Type 1 diabetes mellitus is the worst form of diabetes as it is closely associated with the body being unable to produce insulin. When the pancreas and more particularly certain of its beta cells are destroyed the body loses its ability to produce insulin. It results in the disease of type 1 diabetes and the affected person would have to be injected insulin or given oral insulin dose for entire life.

What’s worse is that being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes mellitus means you risk developing another disease which is hyperglycemia in which the blood glucose levels are out of control and more precisely glucose levels are too high for your health. Symptoms of Type 1 diabetes mellitus include frequently urinating, frequently feeling hungry and also feeling thirsty a bit too often.

Consequences of Type 1 diabetes mellitus include developing blurred vision, feeling fatigued, losing weight as well as having low healing abilities. In addition, you will experience dryness in the mouth and your skin too can turn itchy as well as dry and males can become impotent. The immune system is considerably weakened and this means that you will easily develop infections.

It is believed that among one hundred thousand people there would be between 3.7 to twenty persons that will have developed Type 1 diabetes mellitus. At present, it is believed that about seven hundred thousand Americans have developed Type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Knows the common diabetes mellitus symptoms are good for you. If you look out for common symptoms you will be able to identify this silent killer disease well in time and so be in a stronger position to combat it. Increased thirst, regular urination, unclear vision, problems in stomach as well as vomiting some serious symptoms to be taken care.
